After his service as a conscript between November 1948 and May 1949, Joseph reenlisted on 30 November 1950 and joined the first contingent. No combat records could be found during research.

After his return from Korea, Joseph was discharged in October 1951 and returned to civil life. When in the early 60s, the American manufacturer Cleveland Crane Engineering opened up a subsidiary in Clervaux, he reported to work for them. Living in Clervaux, Joseph was voluntarily engaged in the local fire department. As a firefighter, he stood in service to the community and lived up to his heroic standards of a soldier even after he quit military service.

He was married and the father of two children.
