On 30 March 1948, André signed up for voluntary military service and joined the IInd Battalion. As his term ended in 1949, he enlisted again for a 3-year period. After being promoted Caporal in May 1950, he answered the call for volunteers for Korea. More specific details about his term in Korea are lacking.

After his return, he extended his military service twice, in 1952 and 1954. During February and April 1955, he took an advanced course to become a Sergent. Later on he became an instructor and in 1966, he was assigned to the accounting department. He married Emilie Welter on 15 October 1960 in Niedercorn.

With the dissolution of the Volunteer Army, he worked for the Ministry of Education until his retirement. He spent the last years of his life with his friends, the Flammang family.
